Post Speedo Cable @ Wheel Hub Issue

I have a 2007 GT200 and am finding when the speedometer stops working that I have (after taking it all apart a few times) found that the end at the speedometer is fine, that the cable itself is whole and unbroken and after detaching the cable at the wheel hub find it has 'traveled' to far into the wheel hub thereby disconnecting it from the speedometer on the upper end. I am able after removing the cable housing from the wheel hub to 'shove' the cable back up into the speedometer reattach it back to the wheel (little plate and 10mm bolt) that the speedometer will work until I come to the next stop and have to go through the process all over again.

My question is:- is there a nylon connection/interface at the wheel hub like there is behind the speedometer and could it be
'wallered' out causing the cable itself to pull away from the upper connection and drop too far into the wheel hub rendering it non-functional?

Just to clarify again; the connection on the upper end at the speedometer is good the issue seems to be at the lower end and if anyone else has had this issue or knows what causes it please drop me a line.

btw I don't see a check box to notify me of a response so here's crossing my fingers.
